Privacy Policy

SolfègeDice (“we,” “us”) provides a solo sight-singing practice game used by music teachers and their students. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built SolfègeDice to collect as little personal information as possible — especially about students.

Who uses SolfègeDice

Teachers create accounts and, for paid plans, provision access for their students. Students use the service under the direction of their teacher and school. When a school or teacher enables SolfègeDice for students, they do so under their authority to consent on behalf of students for educational purposes.

Information we collect

• Teacher accounts: name, email address, and a password (managed through our membership system) so teachers can log in and manage classes.
• Payments: if you subscribe, payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number — Stripe handles it. We keep basic records of your subscription status.
• Student accounts: minimal by design — a username, first name, and last initial. We do not collect student email addresses, full last names, or dates of birth. Teachers provision these accounts.
• Practice data: the exercises a student rolled, their scores and teacher comments, and audio recordings of their singing when they choose to record.
• Basic technical data: standard server logs (e.g., IP address, browser type) used to keep the service running and secure.

How we use information

We use this information only to operate the service: to let teachers run sessions and assignments, to let students practice and record, to let teachers grade and give feedback, to process subscriptions, and to keep the service secure. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use student information for advertising.

Student data, COPPA & FERPA

SolfègeDice’s paid student features are intended for use by schools with students under a teacher’s supervision. We act as a service provider to the school: the school or teacher directs what student information is entered and retains control over it. We collect only the minimal student data described above and use it solely to provide the educational service. Where COPPA or FERPA applies, we rely on the school/teacher’s authority to authorize student use, and we support the school’s ability to review and delete student data.

Recordings and retention

Student audio recordings automatically delete after approximately 14 days (a window the teacher’s plan may configure). Scores and teacher comments are retained so progress isn’t lost. Teachers can delete a student’s account, recordings, and associated data at any time.

How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We share information only with service providers that help us run SolfègeDice — for example, our hosting provider and Stripe for payments — and only as needed to provide the service. We may disclose information if required by law.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect information, including access controls and encrypted connections. Recordings are stored so they are only accessible to the owning teacher and are removed on the retention schedule above. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Your choices

Teachers can view, update, or delete student accounts and recordings from their dashboard. To request access to or deletion of information, or with any privacy question, contact us at the address below. Schools may request deletion of their students’ data.

Cookies

We use only the cookies necessary to keep you logged in and to operate the site. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Children under 13

SolfègeDice does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 outside of the school/teacher-provisioned context described above. The free demo on our homepage requires no account and no personal information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and change the “Last updated” date.
